At Bats or Buddy Tournament this weekend!

May 17, 2013

This weekend the CCHS Varsity and JV teams will be participating in the At Bat for Buddy Tournament.  The tournament raises money for the At Bat For Buddy Scholarship Foundation which has awarded college scholarships to worthy high school softball players annually since its inception in 2010.  In 2013 the foundation will award 2 $1,000 scholarships.  For more information, please visit http://www.atbatforbuddy.com.

The games will be played at Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody, MA.  On Saturday, the JV and Varsity teams play Billerica HS at 9 AM.  On Sunday the Varsity team returns to play Beverly HS at noon.  There will be a number of teams participating in the tournament this year: in addition to CCHS, Beverly and Billerica, there will be Bishop Fenwick, Danvers, Shawsheen, Reading, St. Mary's and Winthrop.

The foundation was founded to honor Ed "Buddy" Henry and continue his legacy of supporting young athletes.  Coach Henry was a highly successful and influential softball coach at Bishop Fenwick.  He coached CCHS Varisty coach Lisa McGloin at Fenwick in the '80s and she returned as an assistant coach for him in the '90s.  In May of 2010 Coach Henry died after a long illness.

On May 17 the Salem News posted a nice article about Coach Henry and the tournament.  It is accessible at http://www.salemnews.com/sports/x1169352592/Late-great-Fenwick-coach-Henry-remembered-in-upcoming-tourney.

Coach McCaffrey-Clark Named Top Chemistry Teacher

April 25, 2013

On Thursday evening, April 25, the New England Institute of Chemists held its annual awards dinner where it named Coach MC as the recipient of its NEIC Secondary School Teacher Award for Massachusetts. Since 1994 the NEIC has identified and named those chemistry teachers it considers most outstanding.  Today six teachers are recognized each year, or one from each New England state.  This is a great achievement, yet it is not even the first time Coach MC has been recognized as an outstanding teacher.  In 2010 she was named to the Aula Laudis Society, a "Hall of Fame" for HS chemisty teachers that is awared by the northeast section of the American Chemial Society.  Congratulations coach!

Here is Coach McCaffrey-Clark, with former student and now fellow CCHS chemistry teacher, Rebecca Rotti holding her NEIC Teacher Award.

Coach Lisa McGloin Wins 250th Game with Concord-Carlisle

April 23, 2012

With a 15-3 victory over Beverly this past Sunday, Concord-Carlisle softball coach Lisa McGloin secured her 250th win of her career at CCHS. The previous week McGloin registered her 200th Dual County League win with a victory over Lincoln Sudbury.

McGloin began her coaching career at CC in 2000 with her team posting 22-3 mark. McGloin's teams have won 20 or more games eight times during her tenure with the high water mark coming in 2001 when the Patriots finished with a record of 25-1.

Now in her thirteenth year at the helm, McGloin's overall record stands at 250 victories against just 37 losses. Her Dual County League mark is even more impressive where the Patriots have accumulated a mark of 200 wins and eight losses. McGloin's teams have won 11 DCL championships, won the Massachusetts North Sectional six times and have appeared in the state semi-final six times. McGloin was selected Boston Globe Coach of the Year in Division II in 2003 and the Lowell Sun Coach of the Year in 2009.

Fittingly, McGloin achieved this mark at Bishop Fenwick High School in a tournament to honor her mentor and former Fenwick coach Ed Henry who passed away in May, 2010. McGloin played for Henry at Fenwick from 1985-1988 before continuing her stellar career at the University of North Carolina.

McGloin herself has mentored hundreds of players at CCHS, many of whom have continued their playing careers at collegiate level.

Concord-Carlisle Division 2 North State Softball Champions - 3rd in State!

June 14, 2009

Congratulations to the Concord-Carlisle High School Softball Team on winning the Division 2 North State Championship, Finishing 3rd overall in Division 2 in the State!  Although the team lost in the State Semi-Finals in a tough 10 inning game vs. Ashland, all the players, coaches and parents should be very proud of what the team accomplished in their 23-1 season.

Keep in mind that CC defeated BOTH teams (Lexington and Gardner) in the Division 1 State Championship game AND the only team that defeated CC was the eventual Division 2 State Championship team Ashland.  That's a great season by any measure!
